Amazing Golf Destinations Around the World

I’m in avid golfer. I go out to shoot 18 with friends, have a few laughs and enjoy being outdoors. My favorite aspect of golf however, isn’t the big drives or blown putts, it’s the courses themselves that I’m always caught admiring. I’ve had the opportunity to play on a lot of famous grounds but there are still so many places around the world that I’m dying to experience in this life.

Here is my list of the Top 5 Amazing Golf Destinations that I want to visit at some point down the road.

Scotland

The mecca of golf courses, St. Andrews, lives in Scotland. In a 2009 publication by Golf Digest, they listed 17 of the top 100 “best of the rest” golf courses in Scotland. I imagine the rolling green hills and steep coastal cliffs have to make for one beautiful golf outing. Not to mention playing in the shadows of all the great golfers who have tried to master the best of Scotland’s famously tough holes.

California, USA

Weather plays such an important role on the game of golf, which is why California is my next choice. As the story goes, it never rains in Southern California, so why wouldn’t I love to play in one of the greatest climates in the United States? Not to mention, the dramatic change in scenery from Southern to Northern California allows you to golf your way across the state without ever seeing the same view twice. Top courses on my list of places to play include Torrey Pines, Pelican Hill, and the Mountain Course at La Quinta. In due time.

Portugal

Golf was introduced to the Portuguese by a group of British wine exporters in the 19th century and thankfully so because the beautiful weather and incredible coastlines make Portugal an absolutely stunning location for a round of golf. Although there are only 70 or so golf courses in Portugal over half of them are of very high standard.  If you’re doing business in Portugal’s capital city you can find many places to golf in Lisbon, including the famous Penha Longa Golf Club, the Estoril Golf Club and Club de Golfe Belavista.

New Zealand

New Zealand is a dream destination for me not only because of the beautiful women, weather and surf but also because of all the hype around their incredible golf scene. New Zealand is home to over 400 public and private golf courses and is quickly becoming par with some of the world’s best golf destinations. From incredible coastline to snow-capped mountains, and rustic forests New Zealand is definitely on the top of my list.

One day I’m going to take golf lessons for an entire year. Maybe 3 months in each of these amazing golf destinations? That would be a hole in 1.

  1. Golf is a hugely popular sport. But while playing golf can be downright frustrating at times, it’s always enjoyable reading about the beautiful game.
