Portraits of A Bolivian Book Fair & The Feelings Involved

I’m writing this post from 35,000 feet in the air on my way from Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Cancun, Mexico. As I squeeze into the middle-row seat on a 6-hour flight between 2 layovers and an overnight bus ride, nothing can push me off the feeling I have at this moment. The feeling is of complete warmth. One that rushes through your body when something you’ve been working so hard for finally comes to fruition. It’s like that sensation you get on a Friday afternoon when the sun hits your face as you leave the office. This is the feeling I crave and one that constantly drives me. Last Saturday, the BiblioWorks staff, myself and nine other volunteers put on the first ever book fair in Sucre, Bolivia and it went off without a hitch. We had 15 educational institutions participating, 11 corporate sponsors and hundreds of children and adults …

Top 10 Hottest Peruvian Women

After being a bit disappointed with the scarcity of eye-candy in Ecuador, I crossed the border into Peru with high expectations. Although there isn’t as much hype around Peruvian beauty like Colombians or Argentines, I was relieved to find that from Mancora down to Arequipa, the women of Peru held their ground against their sexy latina counterparts. Now as I get settled in Bolivia and start my adventure here, I leave you with my heavily researched and overly biased list of the hottest women of Peru. The list is generated from recommendations by Peruvian friends based on hotness, fame and skills. Enjoy responsibly. T2T’s Top 10 Hottest Peruvian Women 10. Alexis Amore – Porn stars are beautiful too! That’s why I’m kicking off the Top 10 hottest Peruvian list with the lovely and sensual mattress actress, Alexis Amore. Born in Lima in 1978, her award-winning work in adult entertainment has made her one of the …

Sambo’s Monkeymentary

**Watch in HD** On day 1 of volunteering at Paseo Los Monos Monkey Rescue Center in Puyo, Ecuador my camera was confiscated by Sambo, the alpha woolly monkey. He told me I could have it back at the end of the week, but not before he put together this short video explaining his life at “the Monkey Ranch”. If you notice any shaky footage you need to understand that monkeys don’t use tripods. Read all about my experience at Paseo Los Monos Monkey Rescue Center. Special thanks to all animals and volunteers who made this week one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Also, thanks to Nick Greco for translating Sambo’s dialog. Having trouble loading the video? Try watching it on the T2T Youtube Channel

Tourist2Townie.com – 2 Years Deep

This past Saturday marked the 2 year anniversary of Tourist2Townie.com and my quest to travel deeper. On October 1st, 2009 I left everything comfortable in my life in search of something more. My dream was to become part of a foreign community, learn new skills, meet new people and experience new adventures. Now, as I sit here writing this on the eve of my next mission, I think about that dream and how much this experiment has developed. The memories I’ve accumulated over the past 2 years are what fuel me to move forward, do more and constantly improve. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. The video above is a quick summary of the first chapter of my Tourist 2 Townie Experience – work and travel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. See you in Ecuador on Wednesday.

Un Dia En La Vida – Medellin, Colombia

While I’m happy to be home visiting friends and family for a few months, putting together this little piece really made me miss life back in Medellin. The music, food, language, culture and women… I fell in love with Colombia in the 5 short months of living in Medellin and I can’t wait to get back soon. I shot all the clips for this Medellin time-lapse video the day before returning to the States. I sat for 25 minutes at 20 different locations around Medellin and Envigado. I wish I had more footage of the housing and neighborhoods but for safety measures, I decided against. I actually ventured across town and up to one of the hoods of Medellin that afternoon to film, but with some advice from a local friend, I never took the camera out of my bag. Next time. As you can see at the very end …

The Best of Buenos Aires: Summer Edition

Despite the constant sweat and weird smells coming from the Subte, summer in Buenos Aires has been nothing short of spectacular . I’ve experienced a lot of great things here in the city over the last few months and I wanted to share a few of my favorite spots. After you read this list please recommend other summer places you love and think I should hit before the weather starts cooling off. Enjoy. Here is my “Best of Buenos Aires: Summer Edition” List: Best For People Watching: Walking down Sante Fe Avenue [Palermo to Pueyrredon] between 4 and 7pm passing by Alto Palermo in the process. Taking the 152 Collectivo (bus) through the city (my favorite ride) you can take it down to Puerto Madero from Palermo or all the way to La Boca. Pick a park or plaza and have a seat. You can watch everything from make out sessions to beggars …

T2T Hall of Fame Inductee: Terminator

In my quest to go from Tourist to Townie here in Buenos Aires I must find inspiration in those who have paved the way before me. The special few who have successfully made the life-long transformation into a society once foreign to them. With that being said I decided to create the T2t Hall of Fame to honor these multi-national chameleons. I thought for the first ever inductee into the T2t Hall of Fame there would be no better candidate than the Austria-born action hero, who went from Mr. Olympia to Mr. California… the absolute epitome of this site… Mr. Tourist2townie himself… Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger! Arnold moved to the United States to pursue body building at the age of 21 and spoke very little English (sound familiar???). His bodybuilding career is legendary, his acting career is captivating, and his political career is… pending? Regardless, he’s a man who has come a long way, constantly evolving and …

A WTF Moment

Have you ever had one of those times where all of a sudden you snap out of being in the moment and look at a situation and say “What the F** am I doing here?” Like your doing something really stupid or just in a really awkward situation. Well for me, it used to happen a lot, but not in a good way. I would be working on some project at my old job and all of a sudden realize, man this is really stupid or pointless. And we would call that a “WTF moment”. Well last night I had one of those moments. However, in this case, it wasn’t because I was running around some college campus in a giant Beaver custome. It was actually pretty cool and it made me step back and say “How did I end up in this situation..” I was cleaning up the bar after a pretty …

January is Sponsored by H2oh!

H2oh! is an amazing beverage that is more than just water. It’s the Crystal of sparking flavored water. Lemon-lime is literally a Citrus Explosion in your mouth, while the Apple flavor is like running through an orchard while hundreds of beautiful models throw apples at you! So, drink some today and let’s all make water Jealous! Okay, so maybe I’m not “officially sponsored” by Pepsi’s H2oh! this month but after all the money talk I wanted to give potential businesses an idea of what they could expect from T2t in 2010. So I figure, every month this year, T2t will be sponsored by someone or something (regardless if it’s real or not) and we’ll see how it goes. Actually, we were just messing around one day while my roommate Mariangela was packing for Colombia and decided to film everything with the Flip. Our friend Tatiana was talking about her acting and we figured …

Feliz Navidad from Tourist2Townie.com

When you have the best friends and family in the world it’s tough not seeing them for such a long time. I’ve been doing well with work and travel and about being gone… until today. I didn’t have an x-mas stocking at the end of my bed this morning or a sister to wake up or Grandparents to have breakfast with. I didn’t have a turkey dinner or watch “A Christmas Story” with the fam in a packed living room. Today, I miss that and I miss them. I miss my friends as well, as they count down the days to New Years and celebrate together. This will be the first time in 5 years that I haven’t thrown a New Years Eve party with everyone. While I’m having the time of my life living in Buenos Aires and experiencing new things everyday, I can’t help but to appreciate my friends …

Celebrating the Polo Victory w. La Dolfina

Argentina is home to the greatest Polo players (and teams) in the world. So, when we had the opportunity to see the championship game of the sport’s biggest tournament right here in Buenos Aires, we jumped on it. The final of the Argentine Open was between Ellerstina and La Dolfina. It was the prodigy vs. the legend - Facundo Pieres vs. Adolfo Cambiaso. The magnitude and importance of this match in the Polo world was nothing short of epic. The match went into sudden death overtime and definitely didn’t disappoint (neither did the after party). THE HYPE: Players are all ranked on Handicap from 1 to 10 (best) and this was the first time in the history that 2 teams of40 goals ( 4 x 10 – the perfect handicap) meet in the final. In the last Hurlington Open semifinal Ellerstina beat La Dolfina by 6 goals. Players of La Dolphina say that they only care about …
